A Tribute to Women of Color
Facts & Criteria

Awards are presented annually in March in the following categories:

  • GOOD SAMARITAN - Women who are unsung heroines who contribute their services to community activities that enhance the quality of life and community living.
  • PATHFINDER - Women of color who have opened doors or forged trails for others to follow, and whose contributions and leadership have brought about social change to improve the quality of life for the community.
  • SERVICE TO YOUTH - Women who have worked directly with young people as volunteers in the church, the community and school and who have volunteered services to the community at-large.
  • FUTURE LEADERS - Young persons who have graduated from Anne Arundel County high schools, young persons who are graduating seniors enrolled in Anne Arundel County high schools or college students completing their first year of undergraduate study and who are twenty-five (25) years of age or younger. NOTE: Recipients of Future Leader scholarships and awards are not eligible to reapply.

WHO IS ELIGIBLE?

A nominee may be any woman or man* of color who resides in Anne Arundel County. A nominee should be one who has:

  • Demonstrated sustained excellence, accomplishments, and innovation
  • Demonstrated exceptional leadership qualities in school, church, community
  • Served as a role model/mentor or helped others to achieve in some way

*YOUNG MEN MAY BE CONSIDERED FOR THE FUTURE LEADER CATEGORY ONLY.

WHO MAY NOMINATE:

Any individual, school, club, or professional organization may submit a nomination. There is no limit to the number of awards that one person can be nominated for, however, the nominee is only eligible to receive one award. All information must be submitted on the appropriate nomination forms. Letters of recommendation will not be considered.

DEADLINE FOR NOMINATIONS FOR ALL CATEGORIES IS DECEMBER 1ST

SELECTION:

Award recipients are selected by the Scholarship/Awards Committee and awards presented at the annual March luncheon. Future Leader recipients are selected based on a combination of factors to include work/volunteer experience (community, church, and civic) and academic achievement, in addition to any criteria stipulated by a sponsoring scholarship donor.

Service to Youth, Pathfinder, and Good Samaritan awardees will presented with an appropriate award in recognition of their outstanding service. Future Leader award recipients will receive a monetary award or a college/university sponsored scholarship. Accomplishments of all award recipients will be highlighted in the program booklet and in the local news media.
