Position Overview:
Working under the supervision of the Counseling Coordinator, the 180 Project Coordinator will work closely with facilitators for both the 180 Project and the Anger Management Program (AMP). She/he will coordinate the 180 Project which includes the following two (2) groups:

Men Overcoming Violence (MOV)
Women’s Alternative to Violence (WAV)

She/he will also coordinate the Anger Management Program (AMP) which includes the following two (2) groups: AMP (men) AMP (women).

These programs are specifically designed to insure that men and women, who are court ordered, or voluntary participants, receive quality and respectful services in a timely manner.

She/he will also develop relationships with persons within the YWCA agency, the judicial system (Referring Agencies, District/Circuit Courts, Office of Parole & Probation, Department of Social Services, Police Departments & the YWCA Legal Department) and other organizations who have interaction with perpetrators of domestic violence, as well as with victims of domestic violence.

The 180 Project Coordinator provides general office support, greets clients and visitors and supports other programs of the agency as directed by the Executive Director. While many position responsibilities are outlined, it is understood that specific directives will be provided by the Counseling Coordinator as they pertain to the effective and efficient operations of the department.

The 180 Project Coordinator will be the first point of contact for all clients and community agencies with regards to the Abuser Intervention Program and the Anger Management Program.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Conducting Orientations & Intakes for the 180 Project and Anger Management participants.
  • Complete & maintain participants’ files, with all appropriate documents, and assigns participants to groups.
  • Attend supervisory meetings, when appropriate.
  • Conduct quarterly staff meetings.
  • Institute adjustments to program and administrative practices as requested and/or deemed necessary.
  • Update policies & procedures in Participant Manuals according to new or revised state laws, making sure all participants have the updated information for their manuals.
  • Provide direct services to perpetrators of domestic violence participating in the 180 Project.
  • Provide services and resources to the victims of perpetrators enrolled in the 180 Project.
  • Perform tasks according to the job description for group facilitator.
  • Serve as co-facilitator for Women’s Alternative to Violence (WAV), Men Overcoming Violence (MOV) and the Anger Management Program (AMP) (men and women’s groups) as directed by the Counseling Coordinator.
  • Provide individual, educational sessions and resources for participants when deemed necessary.
  • Offer individual, one-on-one counseling with a YWCA Counselor when group is not appropriate. This is determined during the orientation & intake process.
  • Make decisions in coordination with Counseling Coordinator concerning clients being put into groups or moved to individual counseling sessions.
  • Move individuals in the 180 Project from Responsibility Group (Phase 1) to Option Building Group (Phase 2) in a timely manner.
  • Sign & date all appropriate documentation such as: status reports, compliance reports and termination letters.
  • Distribute by faxing and/or mail appropriate documentation such as: status reports, compliance reports and termination letters to the appropriate agencies, i.e. Office of Parole & Probation, Courts, referral agencies, States’ Attorney’s Office, etc.
  • Counts all monies brought in from intakes, orientations and groups. Submit monies and all collection documentation to the finance office.
  • Participate in Maryland Network Against Domestic Violence, Abuser Intervention Program workshops.
  • Provide monthly statistics for administrative purposes.
  • Communicate regularly with Program stakeholders (i.e. Office of Parole & Probation, law enforcement, judges, etc.)
  • Use appropriate problem-solving techniques.
  • Use active listening skills.
  • Use appropriate feedback techniques.
  • Use self-disclosure appropriately and maintain personal boundaries.
  • Model seriousness of abuse and domestic violence.
  • Explain lack of strict therapeutic confidentiality due to psycho-educational format, but reinforce the maintenance of appropriate privacy for each participant.
  • Model respectful disagreement and conflict resolution.
  • Has a clear understanding between the difference of Abuser Intervention and Anger Management Programs.
  • Has a clear understanding of Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) as it pertains to domestic violence.

Non-essential Job Functions

  • Attend required agency staff and supervisory meetings.
  • Provide reasonable availability when substitute coverage is needed.
  • Participate/liaison with community domestic violence intervention efforts.
  • Provide reasonable availability for community presentations on domestic violence, as needed.
  • Performs all other duties as deemed necessary by the Executive Director or designee.

Requirements:

  • Education and Training: BA in social work, psychology/counseling or a related human services field is preferred; other educational endeavors and/or experience in the human service field may be substituted for formal education requirements at the discretion of the Executive Director.
  • Experience: Pervious employment of volunteer work in the field of human services and domestic violence is preferred. Candidates will be evaluated individually on the appropriateness of their experience.

Additional Skills/Abilities/Qualifications:

  • Thorough knowledge of counseling dynamics and skills.
  • Knowledge of group dynamics.
  • Knowledge of domestic violence.
  • Experience facilitating large/small groups of mostly court mandated participants.
  • Good written and telephone communication skills.
  • Good administrative and organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of basic Maryland State Laws pertaining to domestic violence.
  • Ability to provide effective and immediate crisis intervention for participants.
  • Ability to maintain accurate, up-to-date records.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Able to work with people of diverse educational, cultural and economic backgrounds.
  • Able to work independently, with minimal supervision.
  • Able to bend and lift 40 pounds, or the equivalent of a box of brochures.
  • Commitment to the mission and vision of the YWCA of Annapolis and Anne Arundel County.
  • Scheduling flexibility; some evening hours required.
