Position Overview:

Working under the supervision of the Client Relations Coordinator, the Children’s Services Assistant provides administrative support and support to the counseling department by providing age appropriate activities for children of domestic violence and sexual assault clients attending therapy sessions or support groups.

While many position responsibilities are outlined, it is understood that specific directives will be provided by the Client Relations Coordinator with insight from the Director of Programs and Executive Director as they pertain to the effective and efficient operation of the organization.

The Children’s Services Assistant is the first point of contact for all children of victims of domestic violence and sexual assault who attend therapy sessions or groups. This position does not directly supervise staff, interns, or volunteers. This position also assists the front desk with pulling client files and answering the multi-line telephone.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Setup and maintain the physical environment to meet the needs of children;
  • Provide safe environment for children;
  • Monitor age appropriate activities for children;
  • Facilitate small groups;
  • Travel to Arden House to facilitate small groups for parenting services, as needed;
  • Develops curriculum for program;
  • Implement policies and procedures for the care, safety and well-being of children in group;
  • Provide parents with information regarding their children as well as general child development information;
  • Assist Creating Communities with weekly art activities;
  • Prepare monthly sign in sheet reports;
  • Attend YWCA staff meetings, as required.

Assists front desk staff:

  • Pull and File client charts;
  • Assist in the management of donations;
  • Answer multi-line telephone and refer to appropriate department.

Non-essential Job Functions

  • Performs all other duties as deemed necessary by the Crisis Intervention Coordinator, the Director of Programs or the Executive Director;

Requirements:

  • Associates degree in Early Childhood Education, preferred. Appropriate child development courses to meet state requirements.
  • Two + years experience working with young children ages 0-4.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with staff, and community representatives.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and Outlook.
  • Ability to work independently, with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work with people of diverse educational, culture and economic backgrounds.
  • Proof of being free of tuberculosis.
  • Have an awareness of the spread of disease/contamination from body fluids.
  • Ability to bend and lift 40 pounds, or the equivalent of a box of brochures.

  • Knowledge of the dynamics of domestic violence;
  • Ability to keep accurate records;
  • Ability to communicate effectively with clients, co-workers, supervisors, representatives from community agencies, volunteers, and donor organizations.
