TWIN is an annual program that honors Anne Arundel County women for their outstanding achievements in business and their positive impact in the community. It is also an opportunity to recognize county employers committed to empowering women. Since TWIN’s inception in 1986, more than 700 women have been chosen for the award by their companies and the community. Each honoree is recognized at an annual event and invited to participate in YWCA activities throughout the year. The YWCA of Annapolis & Anne Arundel County will celebrate honorees’ contributions to their field and their vision for enhancing the lives of those in our community. Nominating and sponsoring companies will be spotlighted for their commitment to the professional advancement of women and their dedication to the community at large through acknowledgement of the positive impact of these women visionaries.
Community Education Series
Community Education Series: The YWCA hosts community education sessions surrounding the topic of domestic violence. These sessions run 90 minutes and are facilitated by a crisis intervention expert from the YWCA with potential involvement from Anne Arundel County Police domestic violence officers. The purpose of these sessions hosted throughout the county is to bring an awareness to the signs of domestic violence, the resources available, and an opportunity to ask questions and/or discuss the issues that impede a victim from leaving their abuser. One in four women will be a victim of domestic violence at some point in her life with the average age being 24-37. This is an issue that greatly impacts our community and this is an opportunity to assist people regain their safety, independence, and strong sense of self. These are open forums with a presentation, handout/booklet identifying the signs, and opportunity to meet the YWCA. No registration required. Call the YWCA at 410.626.7800 regarding any questions. Be transported in time to an era when platforms and funk were all the rage. The evening begins with a signature cocktail (generally in a glow-in-the-dark martini glass) and continues with amazing food, silent and live auctions, games with prizes such as an iPad, photo booth, live disco band, and a warm Krispy Kreme as you depart. This event SELLS OUT, so make your plans early to either sponsor or buy your tickets. This is a crowd favorite with proceeds benefitting the domestic violence and sexual assault support services of the YWCA.
