Tribute to Women and INdustry (TWIN)
For almost 30 years, the YWCA has been honoring women who have made significant contributions to both their corporations and the community. The awards ceremony also recognizes corporations whose policies and practices encourage the professional advancement of women. This year’s TWIN Awards Dinner will take place on Thursday, June 4th at the Westin Annapolis. Please call 410-626-7800 x118 for sponsorship and ticket information.
Disco Magic Gala
Be transported in time to an era when platforms and funk were all the rage. The evening begins with a signature cocktail (generally in a glow-in-the-dark martini glass) and continues with amazing food, silent and live auctions, games with prizes such as an iPad, photo booth, live disco band, and a warm Krispy Kreme as you depart. This event SELLS OUT, so make your plans early to either sponsor or buy your tickets. This is a crowd favorite with proceeds benefitting the domestic violence and sexual assault support services of the YWCA. This year’s Gala is being held on Friday, November 7th at the Westin Annapolis. For more information, please call 410-626-7800 x118.
The YWCA hosts Intimate Evenings quarterly. These gathers typically take place in the home of a Board member or community partner. Evenings start with a “Mission Moment” whereby a 10-15 minute overview of a program of the YWCA is highlighted. The remainder of the evening is dedicated to socializing in a wonderful setting over food and drink. To be added to the distribution list for notification of these events, please call 410-626-7800 x118 to request information about Intimate Evenings.
A Tribute to Women of Color (ATWOC)
A Tribute to Women of Color (ATWOC) emerged in 1992 from the YWCA of Annapolis and Anne Arundel County’s Racial Justice committee as a way to recognize Anne Arundel County women of color who make significant contributions to the community as well as to provide scholarships for young women and men of color who demonstrate potential as future leaders. The following scholarship and community service awards are presented at the annual March luncheon: GOOD SAMARITAN, PATHFINDER, SERVICE TO YOUTH, and FUTURE LEADER. ATWOC also strives to address the concerns of the local community through outreach to needy families at Thanksgiving and Christmas, in addition to outreach to local shelters serving families and individuals in at-risk situations and victims of domestic violence. This year’s ATWOC luncheon will be held on Saturday, March 1, 2014 at La Fontaine Bleue in Glen Burnie. For more information about ATWOC or to purchase tickets, please call 410-626-7800 x249.
