Annual Events
The YWCA of Annapolis and Anne Arundel County is blessed with the support of the community, a committed Board of Directors, private foundations, local businesses, higher education institutions, and individual contributions. Annual events throughout the year provide an opportunity to come together and celebrate the successes of the YWCA while raising funds for the programming of the organization. Many events have main sponsors as well as additional opportunities for advertising and sponsorship. The experience of A Tribute to Women of Color, the Annual Gala and Tribute to Women and Industry (TWIN) are meaningful in that they provide individuals with a deeper understanding of what it truly means to change someone’s life for the better as well as provide additional financial support to make it happen!
A Tribute to Women of Color (ATWOC): ATWOC is an organization, open to women of all ethnic groups, which strives to identify and address educational, political, health, family and social issues. Each year in March, ATWOC in sponsorship with the YWCA and other co-sponsors hosts an annual luncheon to recognize and honor the academic achievements and outstanding community service rendered by women of color in Anne Arundel County. More than $500,000 in scholarship money is awarded annually. Click to read more.
Annual Gala: The quintessential social and fundraising event of the YWCA is held in early November each year. This is a fabulous opportunity to come out and support the mission, vision and programs of the YWCA while “dancing the night away” to the disco sounds of the 70’s and 80’s. Our supporters come out donned in their disco gear (platforms, wigs, glasses and all!) to enter a ballroom transformed to a disco, share in fine food and drink, bid on amazing live and silent auction items, and enter to win the cash raffle! Tribute to Women and Industry (TWIN): Honoring women who are making substantial contributions to their respective organization or company in a managerial role, the TWIN award is a highly respected distinction in the Annapolis and Anne Arundel County community. Individual corporations may nominate an individual to receive this award by completing the appropriate application package. The Awards Committee then reviews all submissions and makes award determinations based on the accomplishments and contributions of the individual to their corporation. A formal reception for all awardees takes place in May with a formal banquet dinner occurring in June. TWIN awardees become a part of a special alumni group with future gatherings, events and volunteer opportunities made available to them. Click to read more.
