Children & Youth Programs
The YWCA is proud to offer programming that provides the resources and support necessary for the emotional, social and educational well being of children. The YWCA works in concert with parents, schools, health providers and other community partners to ensure a seamless connection between those responsible for the growth and well being of children. Our partnerships with government, private foundations, public corporations, the education system and other entities have made it possible to connect children and families with the support they need.
Our programs include:
- Mentoring for Youth: Therapeutic Mentoring program providing a positive adult role model for children age 8 to 18 with social and emotional concerns. Children are provided with the opportunity to build their social skills through the use of a comprehensive curriculum that is implemented by professional staff with the utilization of trained mentors. Children participate in group activities, support groups, one-to-one meetings, and field trips. Close interaction with parents is maintained for continuity of care. Children are referred to the program through the Anne Arundel County Mental Health Agency.
- Transition to Independence: The YWCA offers intensive therapeutic case management services specifically designed for teen mothers. The goal of the program is to ensure graduation from high school, positive parenting skills, proper understanding of child development, vocational consideration and general family support. The program is available to ladies age 13 through 18 who are pregnant and/or have children age 0 through 7.
