Hallmark (Economic Empowerment and Racial Justice) Programs
The YWCA of Annapolis and Anne Arundel County is proud to support the National YWCA initiative to promote economic empowerment and racial justice through programming specifically aimed at these topics. Through the identification of private foundation funding and long standing partnerships, the YWCA offers services to ensure educational, professional and financial success.
- Financial Literacy Courses: Developed in response to the mission of the YWCA to further economic empowerment, the Financial Literacy course is offered through use of the YWCA computer lab and financial software called Ever-Fi. Ever-Fi provides the leading media platform to teach students the core concepts of financial literacy. The curriculum is delivered using the latest technology, including rich-media, high definition video, diagrams and avatars, thus providing an exciting and engaging experience for students. Topics include savings and budgeting, understanding a credit score, understanding credit cards and managing debt, how banks and the Federal Reserve work, taxes and insurance, renting vs owning, managing higher education loans, investing, and consumer fraud and protection. Participants are able to try out what they have learned in a safe, virtual world before going out on their own.
- Tribute to Women of Color: Every March the YWCA holds an annual luncheon honoring the academic achievements of women of color and providing almost $500,000 worth of scholarships annually.
